Pentagon Drafting New US Nuclear Strategy For War With Russia / ChinaIt should be noted that many war games and analysis of nuclear doctrine indicates that a regional, tactical nuclear war will quickly spiral out of control into global nuclear armageddon. A Department of War official implied that the new strategy will grant President Donald Trump more options for using nuclear weapons.
The Department of War is drafting a new nuclear weapons strategy for potential direct nuclear combat toe to toe with the Russians and Chinese.Specifically, the Pentagon is focusing on a theoretical scenario of a “regional,” “tactical” nuclear exchange, as opposed to an all-out long-range global nuclear war. The scenario given for this situation entails U.S. allies being attacked by Moscow or Beijing, eliciting a nuclear launch by Washington.
It should be noted that many war games and analysis of nuclear doctrine indicates that a regional, tactical nuclear war will quickly spiral out of control into global nuclear armageddon. “The strategy, overseen by Elbridge Colby, the Pentagon’s policy chief, would place greater emphasis on shorter-range tactical nuclear weapons in the event of a regional war, rather than relying on long-range strategic missiles,” The Telegraph reported Wednesday.

Atmospheric soot loadings from nuclear weapon detonation would cause disruptions to the Earth’s climate, limiting terrestrial and aquatic food production. Here, we use climate, crop and fishery models to estimate the impacts arising from six scenarios of stratospheric soot injection, predicting the total food calories available in each nation post-war after stored food is consumed. In quantifying impacts away from target areas, we demonstrate that soot injections larger than 5?Tg would lead to mass food shortages, and livestock and aquatic food production would be unable to compensate for reduced crop output, in almost all countries. Adaptation measures such as food waste reduction would have limited impact on increasing available calories. We estimate more than 2?billion people could die from nuclear war between India and Pakistan, and more than 5?billion could die from a war between the United States and Russia—underlining the importance of global cooperation in preventing nuclear war.

They slept on the abyss without a surge—
The waves were dead; the tides were in their grave,
The moon, their mistress, had expir'd before;

And the clouds perish'd; Darkness had no need
Of aid from them—She was the Universe.
